Inaugural Hong Kong Climate Forum - Greater Bay Area Climate Action and Cooperation

Tahe University of Hong Kong (HKU) will host the first Hong Kong Climate Forum on March 25 (Monday), with the goal of promoting greater collaboration on climate change and clean energy between the Greater Bay Area of China and California. 

The initiative was jointly announced by HKU and Governor Gavin Newsom of California when Mr Newsom visited the HKU campus and shared insights and inspiration from California's Climate Journey at a fireside chat last year.  

The Forum represents a significant milestone underscoring Hong Kong’s vital role as a nexus in climate change research, green innovation and finance, bridging the Greater Bay Area with the global community. Key activities include keynote speeches, panel discussions and case studies, all focused on various aspects of climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience. Featured panels include “Greater Bay Area Climate Action Policy” and “The Role of Business and Climate Finance”.

The Hon. Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the Government of HKSAR will attend the opening ceremony. Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, will deliver a welcoming speech.

Mr Newsom will address the audience through a video presentation. Ms Zhou Guomei, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, will deliver an opening on behalf of Minister Huang Runqiu, Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
