The Centre for Sports and Exercise (CSE) provides sports facilities and offers a number of recreation programmes and a competitive sport programme, and it employs qualified staff to manage the University's sports facilities and promote physical activity through a Sport and Recreation Programme called Uni-Sports and Uni-Adventure which aim to introduce students to the benefits of physical activity and to introduce, develop and provide opportunities for participation in leisure-time activities and skills for current and post-graduation physical activity. Competitive opportunities in sports are provided through the inter-hall and inter-faculty competitions and through the activities of the 24 sports clubs and University teams that are organized by the Sports Association of the Student's Union and supported by the CSE through the provision of coaching, facilities and subsidies. University teams compete in the Hong Kong University Sports Federation competition and other inter-varsity competitions. The University's Sports Scholarship Scheme allows talented local athletes to pursue studies while training and competing for the University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong National teams. The CSE also runs our Exercise is Medicine (EIM) On Campus campaign that is a world wide initiative that aims to make physical activity assessment and promotion a standard in clinical care. Being the first Asian University to be awarded the Gold Campus recognition from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), CSE promotes physical activity with education, workshops, and outreach to outline the importance of being physically active to positively benefit staff and students physical and mental health. Sports facilities include Stanley Ho Sports Centre and Henry Fok Swimming Pool in Sandy Bay. Also, CSE runs ACTIVE on the Centennial Campus and B-ACTIVE (near MTR HKU station). Both of them are state-of-the-art fitness facility designed to further promote the health and fitness of the university community. Also located at B-ACTIVE is the Active Health Clinic (AHC); a specialized health and fitness clinic providing professional advice and training in the use of physical activity for chronic disease prevention and management. The AHC also offers placement opportunities to students interested in exercise science and fitness.
