Stunning light art projections illuminated the Main Building

The anniversary celebrations kicked off on the University’s Foundation Day (March 16) in 2022 with stunning light art projections that illuminated the Main Building and other iconic campus locations. The event was intended to spread a message of hope and resiliency to the people of Hong Kong and members of the HKU community who have supported and shaped the University for over a century.

Groundbreaking Tech Landmark

This year marked the activation of a roadmap of milestone projects, including the Tech Landmark, the Global Innovation Centre and the Pokfield Campus. The upcoming developments aim to position HKU as a leading global university that is committed to creating innovative solutions for the world's most pressing challenges.

The anniversary celebrations also highlighted the University’s strong ties with the HKU community. The University has a long history of community engagement, and it continues to work closely with different stakeholders to address social issues and promote sustainable development. The celebrations included “111uminate” and “ARTathon”, both of which were great fun for members of the HKU family and helped build a sense of community and University pride.

The grand finale of the series of 111th anniversary celebrations took place on the evening of March 15th, as over a thousand esteemed guests gathered in a grand display of unity and celebration. The High Table Dinner, a cherished and time-honoured tradition at HKU, served as a magnificent tribute to the University's illustrious history and boundless potential. Distinguished students, faculty, alumni, and supporters of the University were present, basking in the grandeur of the occasion and paying homage to HKU's legacy as a beacon of knowledge and enlightenment.

During the High Table Dinner, Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, delivered an inspiring address to the esteemed guests. He emphasized that values and ideas that shape the minds and souls of individuals are of the utmost importance, surpassing mere results and rankings.
