本課程旨為培育專業藥劑師，使他們具備紮實的知識和技巧，提供有效及合乎人情道德的「藥學監護 (Pharmaceutical Care)」，以最高的專業守則，於藥劑學及整體病人健康上有所貢獻。

課程特點：

臨床藥劑學
擁有香港最大臨床藥劑師團隊的公立醫院–瑪麗醫院為合作伙伴，學生能提早獲得臨床經驗，加强跨專業學習機會。學習提供安全、有效及合理使用藥物的專業服務。

新學習導向法
香港大學提倡多元化及「與時並進」的教學方法，這特色將更能在此課程下體現。香港大學李嘉誠醫學院多年前已成功引用「解難為本」的教學方法，以鼓勵學生作跨學科提問、培養學生終生學習之技巧。

本地及海外交流
在課程新加入的增潤單元中，學生將有機會參與一項由自己選擇的社區服務計劃。此單元將會讓學生以未來醫護人員的角色參與關懷社區的活動，並藉此豐富學生的經驗。

除了增潤單元外，藥劑學學生均有機會參加國際交流計劃。香港大學與世界各地不同知名學府和醫院的藥劑部門建立緊密的聯繫，交流地點包括英國、法國、澳洲、日本及美國等國家。此計劃能進一步增進學生的藥學知識，更提供了一個獨特教育和文化的體驗，藉此拓寬學生對不同國家的藥劑界和社會情況的理解。學生於研究所、醫院及社區藥房汲取國際專業的經驗，比較香港與海外的醫療保健制度，增加完善本港藥劑學教育的機會。這方面的經驗有助啟發學生對香港藥劑界未來的發展藍圖。

實習和專題研究
透過香港大型連鎖藥房提供的實習機會，學生將有充足的準備為社區提供專業服務。作為課程的一部分，每位藥劑學學生均有機會在不同藥劑學的環境取得工作經驗。在最後的學年，學生將輪流在醫院、社區藥房和製藥業工作至少一個星期。此外，學生會在教學人員的監督下依照個人興趣進行專題研究，其中研究範圍包括藥劑學、藥理學、藥劑學實踐和臨床藥劑學。不論在學術還是藥劑業的工作層面，研究經驗都會成為建立藥劑學學生未來職業生涯的關鍵。

跨學科學習機會
在四年的課程中，學生將享受與醫學生、護理學生和中醫學生一起學習的珍貴機會。這些跨學科的活動除了可令學生運用自己的專業知識解決問題，亦能培養他們將來和其他醫護人員合作的能力。

As healthcare rapidly evolves, the role of professionals in pharmacy is becoming more diverse. With the development of complex new therapies such as advanced therapy products, it is foreseen that novel transdisciplinary roles will emerge, requiring skilled candidates with concept of medication knowledge, healthcare system, drug development and more.

The Master of Advanced Pharmacy programme aims to equip our students for essential roles in medication management and to support the evolving needs of the healthcare system and patients. This programme provides postgraduate training that students can customize to their professional needs in pharmacy practice, which may be in hospital, community, the pharmaceutical industry, or innovative transdisciplinary roles.

The Master of Advanced Pharmacy programme will have 3 structured streams: Clinical Practice, Community Health, and Pharmaceutical Medicine. Candidates who wish to individualize their exposure to the types of course and do not satisfy the requirements of any of the 3 streams shall be regarded as Generalists.

Clinical Pharmacy is the principle practice of pharmacists in developed countries, the benefit on patients' health and outcome measures of having a clinical pharmacy service both within the hospital and community settings have been well documented. It has been recognised that there is a need to develop specialist clinical pharmacy services in Hong Kong and this Master programme will provide students with both the initiative to improve our current practice and the confidence to do this effectively.

Upon completion, students will have acquired more advanced skills in applying clinical knowledge in all areas of practice and be able to formulate effective holistic pharmaceutical care-plans for patients. Students would have developed strong awareness on medication safety and skills to critically appraise current clinical evidences in order to apply this knowledge to their evidence based practices. Furthermore, a deeper understanding of their chosen specialised clinical area would be acquired by students, preparing them to discuss current health policies/services in the specialised field, and be innovative in making practical suggestions for various health services. A strong emphasis would be placed on the importance of continuous professional learning to enable students to keep their knowledge and skills up to date in order to maintain high quality pharmaceutical care in their practice.

The MPhil degree is a postgraduate programme that focuses on research work.  The programme is available in all faculties and schools/departments, allowing candidates to select their field of study from a wide spectrum of subjects and specialise their research in distinct fields on offer. Students can register on either a full-time (2-year) or part-time (3-year) basis.  The programme offers an introductory experience to research studies and is suitable for those who wish to later pursue a PhD degree or become professionals in their specialised area.

MPhil students will receive ongoing advice and guidance from a dedicated academic or a team of academics in conducting research and thesis writing.  The programme also provides students with solid academic training and diverse educational experiences.  Coursework has been incorporated into the curriculum, introducing students to research techniques and also discipline-specific knowledge.  Students may take part in different workshops, conferences, and competitions to further develop their research skills and perspectives.  The award of the MPhil degree is based on satisfactorily completing courses, submitting a thesis that displays some originality and demonstrates a sound understanding of the field of study and the appropriate research methods, and satisfying the examiners in an oral examination, unless waived, (and any other examination if required) in matters relevant to the subject of the thesis.

Selected full-time MPhil students who have attained good academic qualifications will be provided financial assistance in the form of Postgraduate Scholarships.  Various scholarships and conference/travel support are also available to enrich students’ learning experience and promote professional and personal development.

The PhD degree is a highly recognised advanced research postgraduate programme.  It is available in both full-time and part-time mode.  Candidates can select their field of study from a wide spectrum of subjects as the programme is available in all faculties and schools/departments.  The PhD programme is intellectually demanding, requiring strong analytical skills, critical thinking ability, and language proficiency for undertaking independent research to produce original ideas with significant impact.  It aims to cultivate competent researchers who would like to develop their career in research, academia, and other professional areas.  The 4-year PhD programme is available for candidates who have obtained a good bachelor’s degree with honours and/or a taught master’s degree, while the 3-year PhD programme is offered to those with a research master’s degree.

PhD study focuses on conducting independent research, under the supervision of a dedicated academic or a team of academics, leading to the final submission of a thesis.  In addition, the 4-year PhD programme has a compulsory coursework component, which encompasses advanced specialist knowledge and language and research skills to enhance students’ abilities in different stages of their research studies and prepare them for research work and thesis writing.  The award of the PhD degree is based on satisfactorily completing courses, where prescribed, submitting a thesis that should be an original contribution to knowledge and worthy of publication, and satisfying the examiners in an oral examination (and any other examination if required) in matters relevant to the subject of the thesis.
